Prepping for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

After leaving the school on Monday, we met up again at the Waterfront, which is a beautiful conference and entertainment center located in the center of town.

Katrina and Martha organized different workshops again: Poetry, Dance/Drumming, Banner Painting and the Caterpillar. This is the one that I joined along with Toni, Anselme, Fernando’s niece Shona and her friends Angelina and Shannon.

The Caterpillar was presented by The Beat Initiative to be our float in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Christina from the Beat led a bunch of us in fun improv exercises so we could be underneath each part of the caterpillar, holding a rod to move it forward - while dancing!

Christina warned us that it wouldn’t be easy, since the caterpillar is very heavy and hard to maneuver. I tried it but my back hurt, so she told me that my job would be to dance alongside the caterpillar as a butterfly and to shout out “Hail to the Caterpillar,” and “Bow to the Caterpillar!” Sounded easy enough so I took on that task.
